An area of a hawker centre at Block 226 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 was cordoned off at around 4.45pm yesterday (Sep 26) after a cylindrical object was discharged towards a fruit stall.

Stomper HD was at the scene following the incident and alerted Stomp to what happened.

In a telephone interview, she said that there were several police officers at the hawker centre when she was there and a crowd had gathered around the area that was cordoned off.

According to Lianhe Wanbao, the object had been discharged by an unidentified person 50 metres outside the hawker centre.

Vendors who were preparing their food items for dinner reported hearing a loud sound.

One shopkeeper said he saw a ball of light coming towards his stall.

He told reporters that the cylindrical object was travelling just above ground level. It gave him a fright and he was worried that it will explode.

The shopkeeper then hit it away with a metal hook from the fruit stall.

It landed under a table, and started to burn.

Two hawkers then put the flames out with a fire extinguisher.

Said a police spokesman in response to a Stomp query over the incident:

"On Sep 26, 2017, at 4.39pm, the Police were alerted to a case of mischief by fire at a hawker centre at Block 226 Ang Mo Kio Ave 1.

"No one was injured.
