Cabby helps couple deliver baby after passenger's water bag breaks in Clementi carpark

A cabby helped a pregnant woman whose water bag had broke, deliver her newborn daughter.

The incident happened last Friday (Jun 23) at around 4am, in at an open carpark near Block 716, Clementi West Street 2, reports Shin Min Daily News via Lianhe Zaobao

It is believed that the woman and her husband boarded the cab to a hospital for delivery after her water bag broke.

However, when the cabby reached the carpark, the trio realised that they would not be able to make it in time to the hospital.

Left with little choice, the cabby decided to help the couple deliver the baby.

The SCDF confirmed that it had received a call from the woman’s husband, stating that the baby’s head had already emerged, upon which it dispatched an ambulance.

A nurse then guided the woman’s husband and the cabby through the birthing process, successfully delivering the baby before the dispatched ambulance reached within seven minutes.

The process was reportedly very successful and both baby and mother are healthy.

An SCDF spokesperson said that the baby was already born when the ambulance reached the scene within seven minutes of the call, and both mother and daughter were conveyed to National University Hospital (NUH).
