Cabby beats red light on Rochor Rd and crashes into car

A taxi crashed into the side of a Mercedes-Benz after beating a red light at the junction of Selegie Road and Rochor Road on Aug 8.

The incident was caught on video and posted on Roads.sg's Facebook page.

In the video, the cabby can be seen waiting for the traffic light to turn in his favour but unexplainably, begins to move off before it turns green.

In doing so, the cabby crashes into the Mercedes-Benz coming from the right, causing the car to spin out of control.

Both vehicles appeared to be badly damaged from the incident.

Thiruvupillai A, who contributed the video, believed that the cabby was confused and had moved off after the traffic light at the next junction turned green before the light at the junction he was at.

"There are two junctions within a few metres of each [other], the lights changed at different intervals.

"These traffic lights are confusing, road users must take note and be alert at this junction."
