AVA investigating case of maid slamming dog against floor and hitting it with bowl, appeals for info

Update on Dec 20:

SPCA has responded to stomp with an updated statement.

It said: "The Malamute is advanced in age and has limited mobility due to medical reasons. We have verified that the dog receives ongoing veterinary care for its health problems.

"Investigations into the abuse are still ongoing and are being handled by the AVA."

Original video:

A domestic helper was caught on camera manhandling a pet husky by roughly turning its body over, throwing its head against the ground and then hitting it with a metal feeding bowl.

The original video of the incident, posted on Facebook by a neighbour on Dec 17, has since been taken down -- apparently at the request of the dog's owners -- but re-uploaded versions are still accessible online.

A caption accompanying the original clip purportedly said that the dog had been making distressing noises for almost a week.

In response to queries by Stomp, the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said they are aware of the incident and are investigating.

"Members of the public who have information on this case (e.g. photographic or video evidence, witnesses, etc) can contact AVA at 1800-476-1600. All information will be kept in strict confidence," added AVA.
