Arrested: Driver who fled after ramming into motorcyclist on PIE

A 51-year-old driver has been arrested by the Police for his involvement in a hit-and-run accident on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) on Jan 29.

It was earlier reported that a 46-year-old Malaysian motorcyclist had been riding on the leftmost lane when a white car rammed into him before speeding off. The bike then caught fire.

A video of the accident was originally posted by teacher Khairi Jumali, 27, on the 'Beh Chia Lor- Singapore Road' Facebook page.

The biker, identified as Mr Hajni Yaacob, was sent to the National University Hospital and will be discharged in a few days.

According to The Straits Times, his face was still swollen and his hands and legs were peppered with bruises and abrasions yesterday (Feb 1). Deep gashes on his head and right heel required stitches.

"The driver must be taught a lesson because had there been no witnesses, he would have escaped the law," said Mr Hajni, who added that he was thankful to be alive.
