60-year-old man arrested for allegedly robbing woman of $14.90 pouch at knife-point in Punggol Central

A 60-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of armed robbery at Punggol Central on Oct 24 at around 3.30pm.

In a statement, the police said a 56-year-old woman reported that an unknown man armed with a knife had entered into a lift with her and robbed her of a $14.90 pouch.

The contents of the pouch included a set of keys and a pack of tissue.

Following the alleged robbery, the suspect fled the scene.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division then conducted extensive ground enquiries and investigative probes.

The suspect was subsequently arrested along Edgefield Walk at 6.45pm on the same day.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is also believed to be involved in a case of attempted armed robbery reported on Oct 24 at about 12.20pm along Edgefield Plains.

The suspect will be charged in Court today for an offence of armed robbery under Section 394 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. 

If convicted, he faces a jail term of not less than five years and not more than 20 years and shall also be punished to caning of not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
