60-year-old man arrested for allegedly piercing bus seats with toothpicks

A 60-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of mischief, said the police in an official statement.

The suspect allegedly pierced a passenger seat in a bus.

News of the incident broke after a Facebook user Shervella Wong uploaded a post on her personal page, saying that she had found toothpicks sticking out of a bus seat on the morning of July 22.

Said Shervella:

"This happened to me this morning.

"Thank god, I did check (my seat) before I sat down.

"Why would people actually do that to the seat and let other people's ass get poked?"

The police subsequently received a report regarding the case from a bus company on Aug 4.

Officers from TransCom and Clementi Police Division managed to establish the identity of the suspect through closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) footages.

Police investigations are ongoing, and if convicted, the suspect could face a jail term which may extend up to 2 years, a fine, or both.
