3 men arrested for unlawful entry into S'pore, carrying duty unpaid cigarette cartons

The Police Coast Guard (PCG) arrested three men for unlawful entry into Singapore at about 7.26am yesterday (June 14).

The arrests came after PCG detected and intercepted an unknown craft inside Singapore waters, off Changi.

Three men between the ages of 23 and 38 were found with no valid travel documents, said the Police in a press release.

A total of 24 duty unpaid cartons and four packets of cigarettes were seized.

The three men were arrested for unlawful entry into Singapore under the Immigration Act (Chapter 133).

Under the Immigration Act (Chapter 133), the penalties for overstaying or illegal entry are a jail term of up to six months plus a minimum of three strokes of the cane.

The penalties for illegal departure is a fine of up to $2,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both.
