2 men arrested for allegedly stealing $4,780 gold bangle from jewellery shop in Toa Payoh

Two men aged 26 and 31 have been arrested for allegedly stealing a gold bangle worth about $4,780 from a jewellery shop at Blk 186 Toa Payoh Central. 

The police were alerted to what happened on Jul 24.

In a statement, they said that both suspects had initially entered the shop but left without any purchase. 

Shortly later, the 26-year-old suspect returned and requested to view the bangle. 

When the shop assistant handed over the ornament to him, he fled with it.

Officers from Tanglin Police Division conducted extensive follow-up investigations and managed to establish the identities of the suspects. 

The duo were arrested on Jul 25 at Toa Payoh and Bukit Batok respectively.   

The two suspects will be charged in Court today with the offence of Theft in Dwelling with Common Intention under section 380 read with section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. 

If convicted, they shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 7 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
