17 arrested for stealing fuel from Shell, more than $3 million seized

Seventeen men were arrested for their suspected involvement in misappropriating fuel from Shell Bukom.

The men are aged between 30 and 63, the police said in a news release.

After a report was made by Shell Singapore in Aug 2017, the police conducted extensive investigations and probes.

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, Police Intelligence Department and Police Coast Guard conducted simultaneous raids islandwide on Jan 7, resulting in the arrests.

Approximately $3.05 million and a tanker weighing approximately 12,000 tonnes were seized for investigations.

The police also froze the suspects' bank accounts to prevent dissipation of suspected criminal proceeds.

Investigations are ongoing.
