Man, 19, arrested after reports of units being chained with bike locks and splashed with paint

A 19-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a series of loanshark harassment activities.

In a press release, the police said that they received several reports of loanshark harassment that involved residential units being chained with bicycle locks and splashed with paint.

Officers from the Ang Mo Kio, Bedok and Jurong Police Divisions were able to establish the identity of the suspect after extensive ground enquiries and investigations.

The man was arrested along Saint George's Lane yesterday (Aug 2).

The suspect will be charged in court on Aug 4 under the Moneylenders Act. First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be
fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
