A fire broke out at around 11.15am today (March 2) at Block 220 Serangoon Avenue 4.

Stomper Benc was in the area when she saw flames and smoke billowing out from a unit on the top storey of the block at 11.40am.

The smoke was thick and black and emitting non-stop into the sky.

She saw a couple of fire engines at the carpark next to the block.

"I don't think anyone was hurt," she said.

A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) spokesperson provided Stomp with the following lines:

"We were alerted to the fire at about 11.15am and dispatched two fire engines, one red rhino, two fire bikes, one ambulance and one support vehicle.

"SCDF conducted forcible entry into the unit and extinguished the fire using one water jet.

"No injuries reported.
