Born in the Year of the Rooster, model, actress and TV host Amber Chia fits the characteristics of the determined bird.

"People describe the rooster as a hard-working animal that wakes up early.

"When it comes to my career, I am equally passionate about work. I always make sure I’m early or on time and put in my best effort."

Chia, who will turn 36 on Dec 14, is optimistic about the year ahead.

"The last Year of the Rooster (2005) was an extremely fulfilling year for me.

"At 24, I was travelling a lot for work and my career was going well," said Chia.

"So for 2017, I hope it will be an even better year!"

This year, she hoped the Amber Chia Academy – a modelling academy she established in 2010 to groom new talent – would achieve greater success.

"We will also be organising our annual model search locally, and I hope our winners do well in the international finals."

Away from work, Chia hoped that she would be able to spend more quality time with her family.

"Family comes first for me. I hope I’ll be able to spend more time with my parents and my seven-year-old son Ashton."

This Chinese New Year, Chia did not return to her hometown in Tawau, Sabah.

"My younger sister is eight months pregnant, so my parents visited Kuala Lumpur instead. I plan to take them to Ipoh and Sekinchan to visit relatives."

Chia’s favourite part of CNY is the reunion dinner.

"It is hard to get all the family members under one roof; there are 14 of us altogether. The reunion dinner is the only chance we get to really sit down and catch up."
