8-year-old child adopted by American couple shot to death in the head in suspected mob shooting

Tragedy struck last Monday (Feb 20) when an eight-year-old boy, who had been adopted just three years earlier, died in a shooting in his Los Angeles home.

The child was abandoned at birth and grew up in an orphanage in China, before finally getting adopted at five years old, reports Lianhe Wanbao.

He relocated and went to live with his new parents in Los Angeles, USA.

On Feb 20, however, a gunman sprayed their house with bullets just as the family was having dinner, and the boy suffered fatal bullet wounds to the head, dying as he was conveyed to a hospital for treatment.

A neighbour claimed that a gunman had fired at the house from a car parked outside and fled.

At that time, there were six children in the house, but only the boy was shot.

According to a spokesperson from the police, the shooting may have stemmed from a mistake by the mob, which led the hired gun to take out the wrong house.

The case is currently under investigation although the police have yet to make an arrest, citing the lack of witnesses or CCTV footage as a hurdle to cracking the case.
